Kringvarp Føroya reports that Logos Hope is receiving especially strong support in the Faroe Islands, including financial assistance and volunteer labour.
Margareth Dalheim Djurhuus, national leader of OM in the Faroe Islands, said the support had been moving to see. The organisation has received direct financial assistance, particularly for fuel, while no one has charged for any services provided to the ship during its stay.
After a reception at the western quay, 50 people boarded the vessel to carry out repairs in the engine room. They included engineers, electricians and tradespeople of various kinds, and all the work was voluntary.
Djurhuus said several volunteers had told her that working in the engine room was particularly exciting because its equipment was so old. The volunteers could handle the machinery and feel that they were making a difference, she said.
Logos Hope is currently in Tórshavn and will remain there until Wednesday before sailing to Klaksvík. Public tours and visits for school classes are being arranged in both towns.
