Politicians have raised the possibility of state equalisation funding to ensure that municipalities can provide elderly care, KVF reported. Rising costs are outpacing municipal revenues, creating a risk that some municipalities will struggle to maintain services.

Aksel V. Johannesen, the minister for finance, and Ruth Vang, a former finance minister, did not rule out the state taking responsibility for equalising funding so that all municipalities in the Faroe Islands can provide equally good elderly care.

They discussed the funding model for elderly care on KVFโ€™s Breddin programme.

Johannesen agreed with Vang that equalisation was a task for the state, but said it would be difficult to reach agreement among the municipalities.
