Unity at Tónabíó meeting on EU membership agreement

Supporters of the Já til að sjá campaign gathered at Tónabíó on Friday, saying Icelanders should have the opportunity to learn what an agreement on membership of the European Union would entail before a final decision is made, mbl.is reports.

The meeting was attended by speakers from different backgrounds, including 15-year-old primary school student Halldór Emil Unnarsson, chair of the student council in Akranes; Margrét Kristmannsdóttir, managing director of PFAFF and former chair of the Association of Women in Business and the Federation of Retail and Service; Hjálmar Gíslason, managing director of GRID; freelance text editor Ingibjörg Rósa Björnsdóttir; and Jónas Hagan, chair of the SJÁ board.

Two government ministers also attended: Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir and Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Daði Már Kristófersson. Both represent Viðreisn in the government.

The meeting was chaired by Hákon Örn Helgason, a performing artist, comedian and screenwriter.

Attendees wore SJÁ caps and MÁ ÉG SJÁ T-shirts. The campaign also sells JÁ TIL AÐ SJÁ garden signs and other merchandise.
