Council rejects bids for Seyðisfjörður school expansion

Two bids to expand Seyðisfjörður School have been rejected because they exceeded the cost estimate, mbl.is reports. The decision is recorded in the minutes of Múlaþing’s Environment and Planning Council.
The council will appoint two representatives, one from the majority and one from the minority, to review the tender documents and reassess the cost items.
The project was estimated to cost 939 million Icelandic krónur, while both bids exceeded 1 billion krónur. The work is expected to be put out to tender again as soon as possible.
Jónína Brynjólfsdóttir, chair of the Múlaþing municipal council, told Morgunblaðið that the plans would need to be reconsidered before a new tender was issued.
“We need to go back to the drawing board a little. We will see whether we can put this out to tender again and receive bids that better match our plans,” she said.
Brynjólfsdóttir expects construction at the school to begin next year.
About 60 children attend Seyðisfjörður School, while the expansion plans are designed for between 90 and 100 pupils. The old school building does not meet modern requirements for school operations, and part of the school’s activities has already been moved to a newer building constructed several decades ago.
