Tampere starts negotiations affecting 220 city employees

Tampere will begin co-operation negotiations covering about 220 employees in its personnel, finance, communications and marketing functions, Yle reports.

The negotiations are due to start in early September, with the restructured organisation expected to begin operating at the start of next year.

The process is intended to assess options for developing and renewing the functions. It is part of Tampere’s wider financial balancing programme, which began last year.

The negotiations follow reviews of the city’s personnel and finance functions, as well as its communications and marketing operations. The reviews identified a need to clarify structures and operating models to improve effectiveness.

The reforms are intended to make operations, services and processes more efficient and could lead to substantial changes in duties. The city is not seeking staff reductions and aims to offer alternative work to everyone affected by the changes.

Dismissals could nevertheless be considered if an employee does not accept the work offered or if no other suitable work is available.

Tampere’s city government will discuss the matter at its meeting on Monday, August 31.

The city last held co-operation negotiations in autumn 2025. As a result, 122 positions were discontinued and 72 employees were decided to be dismissed.
