Doctors detail victim’s jaw, facial and rib fractures

Doctors who examined the alleged victim in Malta have described multiple serious injuries in testimony at the main proceedings in the Reykholt case, mbl.is reports.

A Maltese doctor and radiologist examined the victim after he arrived in Malta in April 2024. The doctor, a specialist at the hospital where the victim sought treatment, testified by video link that he met him on the morning of April 24. The victim told him he had been assaulted in Iceland.

The examination found numerous external injuries, including bruising above the right eye, swelling to the right jaw, bruises on the neck and right arm, and bruising on the left side of the body.

Imaging showed multiple fractures, including a displaced fracture of the lower jaw and a fracture to the nasal bone. Chest scans also revealed fractures to several ribs.

The doctor said the injuries were serious because there were multiple fractures, some of them displaced, including fractures to the face.

A CT scan of the victim’s head also showed bruising with bleeding in the left frontal lobe. The radiologist, who works in the hospital’s emergency department, testified that the images indicated a possible area of bruising and bleeding there, as well as fractures to the lower jaw and nasal bone.

The Reykholt case dates back to April 2024, when a group of people allegedly attacked a foreign man at his home in Reykholt in Biskupstungur. The man is of Palestinian origin and holds Maltese citizenship.
