Rare Koenigsegg Gemera reported vandalised outside Copenhagen hotel

A rare Koenigsegg Gemera has been reported vandalised outside Hotel d’Angleterre in Copenhagen, DR reports. Images of the damaged hypercar have been widely shared on social media since Monday.

Joachim Kay Stender, who runs the car profile Stenders Garage, began receiving photos and videos of the damaged vehicle on Monday. He said it had been delivered to its owner in Denmark only a few weeks earlier.

Stender initially believed the images had been generated by artificial intelligence because he knew the car well. He had seen it on Koenigsegg’s production line in Sweden several months earlier.

He later collected the material he had received and posted it on Instagram. The post had received more than 16,000 likes and around 1,400 comments at the time of publication.

Copenhagen Police have received a report of vandalism involving a car outside the hotel, according to Dagbladet Børsen.

The incident has also sparked a social media debate about wealth, envy and the Danish concept of jantelov, which emphasises social equality and modesty.

Stender wrote on LinkedIn: “You do not need to destroy someone else’s puzzle just because you are missing a few pieces yourself.”

He said he did not know the motive behind the vandalism and did not want to draw conclusions. However, he said that owning an expensive car was “the ultimate way to display wealth” and could therefore quickly make it an object of envy.

The car is one of the first customer-delivered examples of the Koenigsegg Gemera and the first of the model delivered to Denmark, Børsen reported. Only 300 are said to be sold.

It remains unclear exactly what happened during the night before Monday and who was responsible for the reported vandalism.
