Five companies hold 33.75% of fishing quota

Five companies received 33.75% of the total fishing quota allocation for the 2026-2027 fishing year, mbl.is reports.

Fiskistofa, the agency responsible for the allocation, has published catch quotas for fishing vessels for the coming fishing year. A total of 308 vessels owned by 260 entities received quota.

The total allocation is just over 275,000 cod-equivalent tonnes. Cod accounts for more than 158,000 cod-equivalent tonnes, down from nearly 160,000 tonnes in the previous fishing year. The allocation for haddock is just over 41,000 cod-equivalent tonnes, a decrease of 3,000 tonnes year on year.

The companies with the largest allocations are:

Samherji Ísland hf., 8.68%

Brim hf., 7.76%

Ísfélag hf., 6.59%

Fisk Seafood ehf., 6.31%

Vísir ehf., 4.41%

The vessels with the largest allocations are:

Sólberg ÓF 1 (2917), owned by Ísfélag hf., with 10,031 cod-equivalent tonnes

Guðmundur í Nesi RE 13 (2626), owned by Útgerðarfélag Reykjavíkur hf., with 8,648 cod-equivalent tonnes

Þerney RE 1 (2960), owned by Brim hf., with 7,313 cod-equivalent tonnes
