Police investigate attempted murder after Kirkkonummi apartment fire

Police suspect several people deliberately set fire to an apartment in a terraced house in Kirkkonummi, Yle reports. The case is being investigated as attempted murder and aggravated criminal mischief.
Emergency services received a report of the fire at about 3 a.m. on Saturday, August 23.
Investigators found the remains of a firework in the burned apartment. Police’s preliminary assessment is that the fire started after a firework was pushed through a ventilation window.
Seven residents and three cats were inside the apartment when the fire began. Everyone escaped, and no one was injured. The cats were also rescued.
Three people have been remanded in custody, while one has been arrested and another apprehended in connection with the case.
Police preliminarily believe that the suspects, or some of them, knew one of the residents. The sequence of events and the background to the incident are being investigated in a preliminary investigation that is still under way. Police said they cannot comment on the motive at this stage.
