Iceland minister plans overhaul of film reimbursement system

Culture, Innovation and Higher Education Minister Logi Einarsson plans to review Iceland’s film production reimbursement system and establish a task force this autumn to develop improvements, mbl.is reports.

The minister plans to present a bill to Alþingi, Iceland’s parliament, in February.

“We want to simplify a system that is now 25 years old and has been altered every two to three years. It has therefore become a patched-together document,” Einarsson told Morgunblaðið.

He said the aim was to create greater predictability for both the film industry and the state, while making the system clearer. Einarsson said he believed there should be scope for agreement on the changes.

The blockbuster film The Odyssey was among the productions filmed in Iceland.
