Nightwish plans return from hiatus with new songs ready

Nightwish will return from its hiatus next year, Yle reports. Tuomas Holopainen, the band’s frontman and songwriter, told British magazine Metal Hammer that he already has six new Nightwish songs ready.

The band is scheduled to record its next album next year.

Nightwish, which originated in the town of Kitee, went on hiatus in 2024 after releasing its tenth studio album, Yesterwynde. The band had already stopped performing live the previous year, and its last concert was more than three years ago.

Holopainen said Nightwish would not return to live performances next year. He indicated that studio time for the recordings had already been booked.

“I want to make an album before doing any performances. There will certainly be performances later,” Holopainen told Metal Hammer.

During the hiatus, Nightwish singer Floor Jansen has been making music as a solo artist. Holopainen, multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley and drummer Kai Hahto have focused on their band Auri.

Nightwish performed in its hometown of Kitee in 2023, before the touring break.
