DR reports that Midttrafik has demanded an explanation from the bus company after one of its buses overtook a car across road markings in Horsens.

Ionut Putinica was driving on Vejlevej early on the morning of Friday, 14 August, when the blue bus passed him at high speed. It had already overtaken another car behind him before moving across the hatched road markings and pulling back in.

“I was really surprised when it overtook me. I got a shock,” Putinica said.

Another bus was approaching in the opposite direction, forcing Putinica to move onto the cycle path to make room.

“Otherwise, the bus would have pushed me off the road,” he said.

Putinica’s dashcam recorded the incident, and he later posted the video online. Some commenters said he had been driving too slowly, but he rejected that criticism.

“That is not true. I had to drive 60 kilometres per hour, and that is what I was doing,” he said.

Midttrafik has received the video and is treating the incident seriously.

“This is not the kind of driving we expect from drivers operating for Midttrafik. They must, of course, follow traffic regulations like everyone else,” said Christina Meiner Tästensen, team leader for contracts at Midttrafik.

She has asked the bus company operating the service for an explanation. It is up to the company to decide whether the overtaking should have consequences for the driver.

However, Midttrafik’s contract allows it to bar a driver from operating its services if there are complaints about repeated or serious violations. The organisation will now assess whether that applies in this case.
