Consumers warned over chia seeds after insects found

Matvælastofnun, Iceland’s food authority, has warned consumers about one production lot of Trevissan chia seeds imported and sold by Costco after an insect was found in one jar, mbl.is reports.

Costco has recalled the product in consultation with the health inspection authorities of Garðabær, Hafnarfjörður, Kópavogur, Mosfellsbær and Seltjarnarnes.

The recall applies only to the following lot:

Brand: Trevissan
Product: Chia Seeds
Manufacturer: Swedish company
Origin: Paraguay, Argentina or Brazil
Lot number: CH268X
Net weight: 1,400 grams
Best before: 19 March 2027
Barcode: 8410770912342
Distributor: Costco wholesale in Iceland

Customers who have purchased the product can return it for a refund at Costco’s store at Kauptún 3 in Garðabær, according to the notice.
