Police suspect Puistola carport fire was deliberately started

Police suspect that a fire at a carport in Puistola, Helsinki, was deliberately started, Yle reports. The possibility of a technical fault has not been ruled out.

Police are investigating the fire as criminal damage. No one has been arrested in connection with the case, said investigator Tuomas Lindholm.

Five cars caught fire in the carport, according to the rescue services. The flames also spread to the end of a nearby terraced house, making an estimated three apartments uninhabitable.

No injuries were reported. The building belongs to Heka, the city’s rental housing company, and contains seven apartments.
