Man indicted 11 years after alleged assault on partner

A man has been indicted for allegedly imprisoning his former cohabiting partner and repeatedly assaulting her during the confinement in August 2014, mbl.is reports.

The indictment was issued late last year, more than 11 years after the alleged offences took place. It alleges that the man prevented the woman from leaving their home from August 25 to the afternoon of August 27, 2014.

According to the indictment, he repeatedly kicked and struck her in the head, genital area, torso and limbs. She suffered broken ribs and acute kidney failure, as well as extensive facial bruising, black eyes, swelling to her jaws, ruptured eardrums in both ears and bruises across her body.

The woman is seeking five million Icelandic krónur in compensation for non-financial damages. The case is being heard by Reykjanes District Court. The main hearing begins on Wednesday and will be held behind closed doors.
