Svendborg council clears path for 312-guest seaside hotel

A majority on Svendborg City Council has approved changes to the local plan, bringing a controversial seaside hotel in Lundeborg on eastern Funen closer to construction, DR reports.

Seventeen of the council’s 29 members voted in favour of five of the seven dispensations needed to proceed with the project. Around 50 local residents attended the council meeting and protested the decision.

The project involves 12 large holiday apartments in six buildings, with capacity for 312 guests. The development is planned on the site of the former Lundeborg Strandcamping campsite.

Anette Pedersen, chair of the Lundeborg Citizens Association, said she was extremely disappointed by the vote. “It has been exciting to follow the process here, but I have to say I am a little semi-depressed right now,” she said.

Svendborg Mayor Bo Hansen of the Social Democrats said he understood the opposition but believed the hotel could benefit the town. He said it could create turnover and jobs, possibly including a café in Lundeborg, as well as increased business in the surrounding area.
