Earthquake swarm near Reykjanes Ridge ends after 200 tremors

An earthquake swarm near the Reykjanes Ridge ended on Tuesday after around 200 tremors were recorded, mbl.is reported.

Sigríður Kristjánsdóttir, a natural-hazard specialist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, said the activity was caused by tectonic plate movements along the North Atlantic Ridge.

The two largest earthquakes measured 4.1 in magnitude. The tremors were not felt in populated areas because their sources were about 26 kilometres west-southwest of Eldey.
