SEV creates team to maintain Húsahagi wind turbines

SEV has created its own team to maintain the wind turbines at the Húsahagi wind farm, Kringvarp Føroya reported, ending a decade-long arrangement in which the work was handled by an external supplier.

Problems have affected the turbines for some time. The supplier told SEV it could not extend its contract as planned, and the turbines gradually began shutting down after the 2024-25 winter, leaving nobody responsible for maintaining them.

SEV found a new approach early in 2026 by establishing a dedicated wind turbine team. Three employees have so far been assigned to the work.

Heri Mortensen, head of SEV’s production division, said two of the turbines were probably beyond repair. The team will attempt to restore the remaining 11 to operation.

Mortensen said the target was for more than half of the turbines to remain operational for several years. He added that the work could be learned and noted that SEV’s production division operates 75 of its 100 production units itself, using mechanical engineers and electricians.
