15 apply to lead Faroe Islands immigration office

Fifteen people have applied to become head of department at the Faroe Islands’ Directorate of Immigration, Kringvarp Føroya reported. Both women and men are among the applicants.

The application deadline was 10 August. The successful candidate will take up the position on 1 October or 1 November.

The Directorate of Immigration is organised under the Labour and Industry Agency, which is an institution under the Ministry of Labour and Industry. It handles immigration and integration matters in the Faroe Islands, including applications from foreign nationals for work and residence permits and family reunification. It also provides guidance on matters affecting foreigners in the Faroe Islands and carries out tasks related to legislation on refugees from Ukraine.

Eighteen people work at the Directorate of Immigration. Jógvan Thomsen, director of the Labour and Industry Agency, said the new department head would be appointed on one of the two dates.

Sólvá Dam has served as head of the Directorate of Immigration since 2021. She has now moved to a new position as department director at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing.
