Whale rescued from boat harbor in Þorlákshöfn, Iceland
A whale that had been stranded at the small boat harbor in Þorlákshöfn is now free. Rescue teams managed to pull the whale back into the water around 6 PM.
The animal, which had been stuck since the morning, was successfully guided out to sea after the tide began to rise. Local police reported that they received a call about the stranded whale around 10:30 AM.
Authorities such as the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority and representatives from the Marine Research Institute arrived on the scene to assess the situation and took measurements of the animal. Observers noted that the whale appeared livelier as the tide began to flow in during the afternoon. It is believed that the creature is likely a calf.
