Smyril Line has taken delivery of its new cargo ship Skipanes and is preparing it for the voyage to the Faroe Islands, broadcaster KVF reported.
Skipanes is the first of two new roll-on/roll-off cargo ships Smyril Line has commissioned as part of a larger investment to renew and future-proof its fleet, the company said.
The ship was handed over by the CIMC Raffles shipyard in Yantai, China, and will now begin its journey home.
The second cargo ship being built for Smyril Line in China, Akranes, underwent a trial voyage in June. An accident involving its shaft generator led to additional work, and Smyril Line chief executive Jens Meinhard Rasmussen said at the time that the delay could last several months.
