Landsverk has only two million for tunnel upgrades

Kringvarp Føroya reports that Landsverk has only two million available to upgrade tunnels, an amount that is far from enough for all the tunnels.

Dan Sofus Hofgaard, a department manager at Landsverk, said the funding for tunnel maintenance was insufficient in response to criticism of deficiencies and worn equipment in the Norðskála Tunnel.

The tunnel marked 50 years since it opened to public traffic on Monday. Eyðstein Zachariassen, mayor of Sunda Municipality, said the tunnel needed improvements, including barriers at both entrances.

Hofgaard said work was under way on installing the barriers.
