Faroese roads need 30 kilometres of paving each year, minister says

Faroese national roads should have 30 kilometres of asphalt laid each year, according to Kringvarp Føroya. The current allocation of 12 million kroner is enough for only six kilometres.

Minister Jacob Vestergaard said the roads should be resurfaced every 15 years in a response to Løgting member Eirik í Jákupsstovu, who asked about various road sections and paving.

The national road network is 480 kilometres long, which means 30 kilometres should be resurfaced annually. However, only 30.5 kilometres have been asphalted since 2023.

Vestergaard said paving costs an average of two million kroner per kilometre.
