Korpilahti residents told to boil drinking water after pipe break

Residents of Korpilahti, a village in Jyväskylä, have been told to boil tap water as a precaution after a disruption to the water supply began on Monday evening, Yle reports.

The boil-water notice applies to Korpilahti as well as the areas served by the Moksi and Kärkinen water cooperatives. It remains in effect until further notice.

Water intended for drinking or preparing food should be boiled for five to 10 minutes before use. Tap water can still be used normally for washing dishes, bathing and flushing toilets.

Water that has an unusual colour, smell or taste should not be used as household water.

Some parts of Korpilahti remain without a water supply. Temporary water distribution points have been opened in central Korpilahti.

The City of Jyväskylä will collect water samples from different parts of Korpilahti’s water network on Tuesday. The Jyväskylä region’s environmental health service will announce the results once they are ready, no later than August 28.
