Search continues for man believed to have fallen into river

Search efforts are continuing for a man believed to have fallen into the Jökulsá á Brú river near Stuðlagil on Monday, mbl.is reports.

Police received a report at about 1.15pm that a man had fallen into the river. A large number of rescue workers were deployed, including a Coast Guard helicopter carrying swift water rescuers from rescue teams in the capital region.

Kristján Ólafur Guðnason, chief superintendent with the East Iceland police, told mbl.is that no further information was available and that the search was still under way.

Several rescue workers were taking part in the operation. The river has a considerable current.
