Special school receives 100,000 kroner for toys

Skúlin á Trøðni, a special school, has received a 100,000-kroner donation to buy toys for its pupils, according to Kringvarp Føroya.

The donation was arranged after Javni applied to Denmark’s Elsass Foundation for funding on the school’s behalf. The foundation approved the grant, and the school received many new toys last week.

The school’s 71 pupils and 20 children in its after-school programme will benefit from the toys, principal Fríðbjørg Sunadóttir Fríðheim said.

Javni determined that the school needed new toys. Helena Jørmundsdóttir, the organisation’s chairwoman, said supporting a school was not directly part of Javni’s work, but that the organisation chose to do so anyway.

Skúlin á Trøðni says it cannot afford to allocate money for toys within its school budget. Municipalities pay for equipment at ordinary primary schools, while the state is responsible for Skúlin á Trøðni.
