Both patrol and rescue vessels operated by Vørn are currently out of service, KVF reported on Monday. Vørn will review the situation this afternoon after Brimil was withdrawn for extensive maintenance and repairs, while Tjaldrið, which was due to take over its duties, is out of service because of an engine failure.

“We have an interim status meeting this afternoon, and after that meeting we will have a clearer picture of the situation,” said Jóhan Simonsen, acting director of Vørn.

The extent of Tjaldrið’s engine failure and when the vessel can return to service remain unclear. It would also take time to return Brimil to service, as much of its equipment has been removed for maintenance and repair work.

Vørn has asked the Arctic Command to help with patrol and rescue services while both of its vessels are out of service. The Arctic Command currently has one vessel near the Faroe Islands.
