School assistant jailed for secretly filming and touching children

A school assistant has been sentenced to two years and one month in prison for secretly filming and sexually touching children in Rauma in spring 2024, Yle reports.
The Satakunta District Court found the man guilty of 12 counts of sexual interference involving children and 12 counts of secret filming. His victims were preschool and primary school children.
The court said the man had intentionally touched the children for sexual purposes. He filmed them in changing and washing facilities when they were naked, lightly dressed or wrapped in towels.
According to the court, the videos indicated that he had tried to film the children without them noticing.
The man admitted filming the children but denied having a sexual motive. He did not agree to explain why he had filmed them. The court also rejected his claim that the touching had been accidental.
The court said the man’s actions were liable to harm the children’s development. He was remanded in custody immediately after the trial.
The judgment is not final and can be appealed to higher courts. Yle is not publishing the man’s name to protect the victims.
