Fagersta, grief, school attack

Felicitas, 17, lost one of her closest friends in Friday’s attack at Brinell School in Fagersta, SVT reported. The two had planned to eat kärleksmums at school on Monday and had already mapped out their graduation day.

“She was the reason I studied, and I was hers,” Felicitas said.

Felicitas met her friend when they began studying on the natural sciences programme. She described her as social, energetic and kind.

“I have never laughed with anyone as much at school as I did with her. I was so happy. It is so unfair that it will never, ever happen again.”

The pair helped each other with physics and chemistry and encouraged each other when their studies became difficult. They planned to take advanced mathematics in their final year and looked forward to sitting around a campfire during the school camp in the spring.

They had also begun planning their graduation ceremony. They wanted to run out together, holding hands, and hoped to be the first to do so.

Felicitas said her friend wanted to continue her studies and become a midwife or doctor in Stockholm.

“She had such big plans. She felt so strongly for all women who are not allowed to become what they want. She wanted to go far.”

On Friday, the two stayed at school after classes ended around lunchtime. They made a TikTok video and showed it to a teacher, who laughed and told them, “You two.” Before Felicitas left, her friend formed a heart with her hands, as she often did.

Shortly afterwards, messages were posted in the class chat saying that something serious was happening at the school. Felicitas’s friend did not respond. That evening, Felicitas learned that she had been killed.

“I think so much about her family, and I wish them so much strength,” she said.

Felicitas does not know what the future at school will look like. Everything reminds her of the life they shared. She wants a memorial to remain at the school so she can visit it during breaks and tell her friend what she learned in chemistry or physics.
