DR reports that the capital region’s light rail system will open along its full route on Saturday, with public celebrations held at several points between Ishøj and Lundtofte.
The Hovedstadens Letbane light rail system will be celebrated with a public festival at Gladsaxe Town Hall, featuring concerts by Tessa, Sanne Salomonsen, Peter Sommer and other artists. Activities at various stations will include a treasure hunt, flea market, teddy bear hospital and circus.
The decision to build the light rail was made more than a decade ago. The southern section opened in autumn 2025, and the northern section is now complete.
“The light rail will be a major boost for public transport, and that deserves to be celebrated,” said Lars Gaardhøj, chairman of the regional council in the Capital Region, which owns the system together with 11 surrounding municipalities.
The line will be officially opened with a journey by an inaugural train. Services will begin progressively as the train passes the new stations, and the entire route is expected to be in full operation at around 11.30. Travel on the light rail will be free all day.
