Both patrol vessels are currently docked, with Brimil undergoing major repairs and Tjaldrið out of service after an engine failure, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
“We still do not know how serious the engine failure on Tjaldrið is, but it appears serious,” said Jóhan Simonsen, acting director of Vørn.
Major maintenance and repair work is under way aboard Brimil and is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that period, Tjaldrið was due to handle Vørn’s patrol and rescue services.
However, Tjaldrið had to return to port with an engine failure the night before last.
The vessel is 50 years old, making it difficult to obtain replacement parts for its engine. “Yes, that could become a major problem, but we still do not know how extensive the engine failure is,” Simonsen said.
