Women will have their own anchor-holding competition at Seamen’s Day in Klaksvík, with everything expected to be ready for the event tomorrow, Kringvarp Føroya reported. Rannvá Isaksen, deputy chair of the event committee, said the celebration was important for Klaksvík and the Faroe Islands.
She said it was also enjoyable to see many visitors from abroad attending the event and enjoying the food provided free of charge.
In recent years, Seamen’s Day has expanded its activities for children. Isaksen said it was important for children to have their own experiences while adults enjoyed the event as well.
Last year was the first time women had their own anchor-holding competition. Isaksen said the challenge was demanding because participants had to hold the anchor straight out in front of them. She said it would be exciting to see how many women entered, adding that some had trained for the competition.
She acknowledged that it had not been easy to encourage women to take part.
