Court hears witnesses on fifth day of Reykholt assault trial

The fifth day of the main proceedings in the Reykholt case is being held at the District Court of South Iceland on Friday, mbl.is reports.

Employees of Síminn are expected to testify. According to earlier reports, the defendants allegedly tricked the company’s staff into installing electronic identification credentials on the victim’s phone.

Residents of Reykholt who may have witnessed events are also expected to give evidence.

Six Icelandic nationals are charged with carrying out an especially dangerous and serious assault on a Palestinian man in his sixties who holds Maltese citizenship. The assault allegedly took place in Reykholt in South Iceland in April 2024. Nearly 18 million Icelandic krónur were transferred from his bank account.

All the defendants have appeared in court and have either given evidence or declined to do so. One has partially admitted guilt.
