Measles cases reported at school in Järna
A school in Järna has been affected by measles as cases linked to the Urkult festival in Sollefteå Municipality continue to rise, SVT reports, citing Länstidningen Södertälje.
It is unclear how many pupils have been infected. Solvik School principal Elin Wanselius declined to comment on the affected pupils’ health or the measures being taken, but told the newspaper that the school remains open.
A total of 24 cases have now been reported across nine regions in the ongoing outbreak. Most of those infected are unvaccinated children under 18.
One case has also been confirmed in Åland, according to Ålands Radio. That case is also linked to the Urkult festival.
Järna, south of Södertälje, is the centre of the anthroposophical movement in Scandinavia, which is sceptical of vaccinations. The community has experienced outbreaks of both rubella and measles over the years.
