Court system outage ends after disrupting Finnish legal proceedings

A serious disruption affecting Aipa, the case and document management system used by Finnish courts and the Prosecution Service, has ended, Yle reported.

The widespread outage began on Monday, August 17. Users experienced significant slowness and login problems, and the system was effectively unavailable for most of the disruption.

Aipa is used by district courts, courts of appeal and the Supreme Court, as well as the Prosecution Service. Decisions could not be entered into the system earlier this week.

Some materials had to be requested and handled through channels outside Aipa. Those cases will later have to be added to the system, creating additional work. Most hearings went ahead using temporary arrangements, but some were postponed.

A repair has stabilised the system, which has been operating normally since Thursday. Authorities said there was no indication of an external intrusion or that personal data had been compromised.

About 4,000 officials use Aipa.
