Health Minister Alma D. Möller has appointed Kjartan Hreinn Njálsson as her assistant, mbl.is reports. He will take up the position on August 27.
Njálsson has spent the past seven years working as an assistant to the Director of Health. Before that, he was one of two editors of Fréttablaðið.
He holds a BA degree in literary studies and lives in Hafnarfjörður with his fiancée and their two children, according to the ministry.
“I know Kjartan well from the close cooperation we had when I served as Director of Health. During his seven years at the office, he has gained important knowledge of healthcare, particularly quality and oversight, as well as knowledge of the administration of these matters,” Möller said.
“He will be a valuable addition to the ministry, and I look forward to working with him,” she added.
Njálsson succeeds Jón Magnús Kristjánsson and will work alongside Guðríður Lára Þrastardóttir, who is also an assistant to the minister.
