There were 29,600 open jobs in the second quarter, 700, or 2 percent, more than a year earlier, Yle reports, citing Statistics Finland. The number of vacancies had previously fallen year on year in every quarter since 2022.

Matti Lahdenmäki, a senior statistician at Statistics Finland, said it was too early to call the increase a genuine turnaround because it was small enough to be explained by statistical inaccuracy. He said it was nevertheless significant that the long decline appeared to have stopped.

The largest change among industries was in construction, where there were 1,400 more open positions than a year earlier. However, the figure was still the second-lowest recorded for a second quarter since 2014.

Vacancies increased particularly in Uusimaa and elsewhere in southern Finland. Western Finland and the major regions of northern and eastern Finland had slightly fewer open jobs than in the second quarter of the previous year.

The statistics describe the situation on June 1.
