NSL-4, pipeline damage, Vestmannaeyjar

It is not yet possible to determine how the civil protection pipeline NSL-4 was damaged, mbl.is reports. An insurance company is investigating the extent of the damage.

The pipeline was damaged overnight on Sunday, August 9. Project manager Eyþór Sigurðsson said work was carried out on Monday at the entrance to Vestmannaeyjar, where workers secured the pipeline and moved it into the correct position.

“There is otherwise no new information regarding the insurance company’s case. We are simply in discussions with the insurance company, which has requested documents from us and is working on the matter,” Eyþór told mbl.is.

He expects the process to become clearer later this week, after a meeting with the insurer to review the main documents.

Eyþór said it was still too early to say what caused the damage. The pipeline will not be pressure-tested or subjected to further work until the insurance company has completed its investigation and reached its conclusions.
