Hanus Hansen, chairman of the shipowners’ association, says the fishing-days system has run its course and should be replaced with a quota system, KVF reports.

Hansen, who is also chief executive of the JFK Group, initially recommends introducing quotas for group 2, which includes trawlers using trawl doors and pair trawlers.

He made the proposal at a fisheries forum in Klaksvík on Monday evening.

However, Minister of Fisheries Bárður á Steig Nielsen says he has no plans to replace the fishing-days system with a quota system.

The audio clips were provided by Norðlýsið, which broadcast from the forum.
