Wolf pack attacks sheep near homes in Pyhtää, killing three
A wolf pack killed three sheep in Pyhtää on Monday and three more had to be euthanised because of their injuries, Yle reports, citing the Pyhtää Game Management Association.
The wolves entered a sheep enclosure on the grounds of Ahvenkoski Manor. The enclosure was protected by an electric fence, but the animals still managed to get inside.
The association said it was particularly concerning that the enclosure was less than 100 metres from a residential building. The wolves were therefore moving and hunting very close to homes.
Predator liaison officers who visited the scene concluded from their observations that several wolves were involved.
The association said the incident must be taken seriously. It called for an investigation into measures that could prevent similar situations and reduce the risk of future incidents before people are affected.
