Iceland, rescue, Snæfellsnes

Tourists trapped between Djúpalónssandur and Dritvík on Iceland’s Snæfellsnes peninsula were rescued on Monday, mbl.is reported. Members of the Lífsbjörg rescue team responded quickly and brought them to safety.

The team said on Facebook that it received the call at 1:35 p.m. The first group set out 14 minutes later.

“We set up a simple mountain rescue system, abseiled down to the people and brought them up to the edge,” the team said.

The conditions were generally good, although the terrain was challenging, with loose scree and cliffs in places. The weather was favourable, the team said.

It added that the people were greatly relieved to be out of the situation.
