Strætó, the public bus service, is adding vehicles to the busiest route in the capital region as passenger numbers typically rise when schools reopen and people return to work after the summer holidays, mbl.is reports.

Three extra buses will operate on weekday mornings, bringing the total number of additional buses on the route to five. Two extra buses are already in service.

The route is the most heavily used in the capital region throughout the year, but passenger numbers increase significantly in autumn. As a result, buses are often crowded and sometimes full, according to Strætó.

Service frequency will remain unchanged, with buses running every 10 minutes in the morning and afternoon.
