Hrafnseyri, Iceland, national costumes

A national costume festival featuring lectures, entertainment and a church service was held in western Iceland over the weekend, mbl.is reports.

Part of the programme took place in Ísafjörður before participants travelled to Hrafnseyri by Arnarfjörður. The event included educational talks followed by a church service.

Before the service, attendees gathered for a photograph in front of an old turf farmhouse, creating a distinctly Icelandic scene. Former Icelandic President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson was among those taking part. He has recently been working in the west, a role connected in part to the name of Jón Sigurðsson, known as the president.

Fine weather in the west added to the occasion’s festive atmosphere.
