Extensive vandalism occurred at Húnaskóli in Blönduós last night, resulting in damages amounting to millions. The police in the North West of Iceland believe they have solved the case but have not released further details at this time.
According to the assistant principal of Húnaskóli, Anna Margrét Sigurðardóttir, the damage was substantial. Windows were smashed, and newly purchased ovens were destroyed in the school’s cafeteria. The police are currently investigating the incident, which appears to have been solely vandalism rather than theft, as nothing seems to have been taken.
While the exact cost of the damages has yet to be assessed, Anna estimates it to be extensive, mentioning the ovens alone were purchased recently and could account for a significant portion of the losses.
The school’s cafeteria also serves a local preschool, which is set to resume activities on Thursday after summer break. Anna expressed concerns about how the situation will be managed, as the meals for the preschool children are prepared in the same kitchen. She hopes the damage will be repaired before classes resume.
