A vehicle possibly belonging to two missing tourists has been discovered at a campsite in Kerlingarfjöll, Iceland, where a search has been ongoing since yesterday evening. The car was located after noon, prompting authorities to intensify the search efforts by deploying search dogs.
The search operation, involving over a hundred rescuers, was initiated following a distress call from the tourists, who reported being trapped in a cave. According to a spokesperson, the discovery of the car provides a new starting point for rescue operations.
The spokesperson stated, “Today, it was revealed that a vehicle parked at the campsite in Kerlingarfjöll may belong to these individuals. This development offers a base for the search, which is why we are now requesting the involvement of search dogs.” The next steps in the operation will be determined as the situation unfolds, with additional personnel likely to be called in, as many of those involved in the search have been active since last night.
“Clearly, we now have a starting point and a significant turning point in this operation. The first step involves the search dogs, and we will have to see where that leads us,” the spokesperson added.
The search continues, with rescuers actively looking for the tourists who are still unaccounted for.
