Himmelev Gymnasium, Roskilde, stabbing

A 16-year-old student from Himmelev Gymnasium, an upper-secondary school in Roskilde, has died after being stabbed near Folkeparken, DR reports. The school confirmed the death in a statement.

“It is with great sorrow that we can confirm that one of our students at Himmelev Gymnasium has died after a very tragic incident at Folkeparken,” the school said.

The stabbing took place while newly enrolled students were attending an introductory party, according to police. The school has opened so students and staff can receive crisis support, with additional support available next week.

Police have urged anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Officers are also present at the school, where the management is in contact with investigators.

Police told DR that the stabbing followed an internal conflict between the victim and the suspected attacker. The suspect, who is the same age as the victim, was arrested after allegedly stabbing him several times and is due to appear at a custody hearing at noon.

Justice Minister Nicolai Wammen described the incident as “horrible and deeply tragic” and said his thoughts and deepest sympathy were with the boy’s family and friends.
