Wolf shot after weeks of keeping animal park owner awake

After a problem wolf near Nørre Nebel was shot, Conny Engholm says she can finally sleep in her own bed again, DR reports. She had spent three weeks sleeping in a shelter among the animals at Dyrehaven Engholm, the animal park she owns, to protect them.

Authorities say it is highly likely that the wolf shot was the problem wolf. Based on photographs published in the media, Engholm believes it is the same animal that visited her park.

The wolf had previously come close to people in three private gardens and had also entered Engholm’s animal park, which is home to goats, sheep, rabbits and alpacas. Engholm managed to drive it away, but then began sleeping among the animals.

“I am glad as a business owner that I can sleep safely again, but it is also sad that it was shot because it was a magnificent animal,” Engholm says.

She says she will protect her animals at any cost and believes the wolf had been too persistent for any other response.

“This wolf should have been shot long ago. The lesson from this must be that action needs to be taken earlier,” she says.
