Helsinki Rescue Department mobilizes volunteer brigades amid heavy rainfall crisis
The Helsinki Rescue Department is currently engaged in multiple operations in North Helsinki due to heavy rainfall, as reported on communication platform X. The department is mobilizing volunteer fire brigades to assist with the situation. “We aim to respond to emergency calls as quickly as possible,” the department stated.
Nina Järvenkylä, a communications expert from the Helsinki Rescue Department, highlighted that “water is flooding basements and drains are unable to handle the flow.” There are currently over a dozen damage control tasks being managed, with the department estimating that the situation will persist into the afternoon.
A strong rain system is moving across Helsinki, with intense thunderstorms initially impacting North Helsinki and now progressing toward South Helsinki. The high humidity levels observed in recent days are contributing to a clammy warm weather feel, which is expected to last at least through Tuesday.
