VR searches for family of baby born aboard train

VR, Finland’s railway company, is searching for the family of a baby born aboard a train on Tuesday evening, Yle reports. The company said it wants to remember what is reportedly its first “VR baby” with a gift and published an appeal on social media.

The IC 49 train was travelling from Helsinki to Vaasa when an ambulance was called to Seinäjoki. The parent and baby left the train there. According to Ilta-Sanomat, which first reported the incident, at least one fellow passenger helped the person giving birth.

“It was an exceptional and joyful event,” VR communications manager Tiina Nummenmaa told Yle on Wednesday. She said train staff are trained to assist passengers in various emergencies and handled the situation calmly and professionally.
