IF Metall ends Tesla strike after members bought out

Swedish trade union IF Metall is ending all industrial action against Tesla’s Swedish company after nearly three years, SVT reports.

The union said it was ending the strike because Tesla had bought out all of IF Metall’s members who were taking part in the dispute.

“We can conclude that Tesla is so strongly opposed to collective agreements that it would rather buy out employees who are union members than give them secure terms. This has no equivalent in the Swedish labour market,” Simon Petersson, IF Metall’s bargaining secretary, said in a statement.

IF Metall began its strike against the company in October 2023. The industrial action will end on Wednesday, August 19.
